In 2021 I made a set of paper collage illustrations to be used as inspiration and a starting point for young children to write a story. Each illustration formed part of a handmade concertina book with several blank pages. The books were then sent between the children and children’s author and illustrator David McKee so they could write a story together, and add their own illustrations, a bit like a game of ‘consequences’. The finished stories then went on display as part of ‘ELMER and friends’ at the Cooper Gallery in Barnsley, an exhibition celebrating the work of the late David McKee (1935 -2022).
